WAGES IN VIETNAM AND SOME THINGS TO NOTICE IN 2017

Since 2017, the issues related to wage have many changes compared to 2016. So how specific are changes? Affect the rights of workers like? Please see details below:

1) Applying new regional minimum wage rates to employees working for enterprises from January 1st, 2017:
From 01/01/2017, regional minimum wage rates applied to employees working for enterprises shall be prescribed as follows:
a) Within unit subregions of region I: VND 3,750,000/ month
b) Within unit subregions of region II: VND 3,320,000/ month
c) Within unit subregions of region III: VND 2,900,000/ month
d) Within unit subregions of region IV: VND 2,580,000/ month

2) Since 01/01/2017, the base salary is VND 1.3 million per month.
According to Resolution on State budget estimates of 2017, the base salary is adjusted from VND 1.21 million per month to VND 1.3 million per month, increase the retirement pension, social insurance allowance and benefit to people meritorious to the Revolution an amount equal to the increase in the base salary.
Time for such activities is from July 01, 2017.

3) Salaries for newly graduated students in 2017.
Graduate students usually have two directions, one is working for enterprises and the other is working for government agencies, therefore, official salaries for newly graduated students as follows:
For working in enterprises:
- Region I: VND 4,012,500/ month
- Region II: VND 3,552,400/ month
- Region III: VND 3,103,000/ month
- Region IV: VND 2,760,600/ month

For working in state agencies:
- From January 1st, 2017 to June 30th, 2017: VND 2,831,400/ month for University graduates and VND 2,541,000/ month for college graduates.
- Since July 1st, 2017: VND 3,042,000/ month for University graduates and VND 2,730,000/ month for college graduates.

4) It is possible to enact Law on minimum wage.
Regulations in the Labour Code in 2012 now prove unsuitable, therefore, minimum wage law should be enacted to apply and follow the market mechanism.
Since then, in the future, it is expected to promulgate minimum wage by month, day, hour.
