Five more years of retention of overseas Vietnamese’ nationality
Last weekend, the Government Office issued a Notification No. 161/TB-VPCP to announce the Prime Minister’s decision on amendments to regulations on registration for retention of Vietnamese nationality.
According to this Notification, the Prime Minister concurs with the proposal of the Ministry of Justice to extend the retention of Vietnamese nationality to five more years (until July 01, 2019) for the overseas Vietnamese who have not lost their Vietnamese nationality.
The Minister of Justice is responsible for submitting this proposal to Standing Committee of the National Assembly for in order that adjustments to the Agenda of the upcoming 7th session of 13th National Assembly can be made.
A project for such amendments shall be put forward during the periodic government meeting in April 2014.
Concurrently, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Public Security are appointed to draft the amendments to the Government's Decree No. 78/2009/NĐ-CP towards simplification of administrative procedures to facilitate the overseas Vietnamese’s registration for retention of nationality.
