Global citizen and its issues.

International co-operation and globalization have closed the gap between the nations all over the world. This trend has created a quite new definition which is commonly known as “Global Citizen”.

Global citizen accounts for those who live and work in many different countries. They could have one or multiple nationalities. The concept of global citizen has basically changed the traditional value of national territories, border lines, political and cultural issues.

Global citizen could be considered as a social phenomenon. It is claimed that the concept of phenomenon has its own benefits. However, like two sides of a coin, other argues it brings more drawbacks that the benefits. The statement above is quite accurate in some cases but might not be so in others.

On the one hand, it is obvious that global citizen currently bring us a lot of advantages. First and foremost, a global citizen would have a very deep understanding about many kinds of culture as well as languages from many areas of the world. Moreover, owning to your significant knowledge about the world, you would easily adapt to any circumstances regardless of the fact that whether it is difficult or not. Besides, being a global citizen would definitely help you to develop yourself or you could exploit your potential skills that are being hidden.

On the other hand, issues on global citizen has its side effects. In a recent program conducted by BBC, a Norwegian women, who originally comes from Vietnam, has revealed how difficult to overcome the drawbacks of being a global citizen. The Norwegian woman, named Chelsea Minh Ngoc, stated that she had been through a time of “traditional crisis”. She knew many things about the culture of Vietnam as well as Norway, however, many things does not mean everything. Chelsea is not seen as a Norwegian nor Vietnamese by her friends because they think that she is still lacking of something to be recognized as one of them. She found herself absolute disappointed when she heard her friends discussed that she was not Norwegian or she must not be Vietnamese. She always wondering how she should be recognized as.

This is just one of the biggest drawbacks of being a global citizen. You could find yourself being a person that is able to travel to every corner of the world but not to be recognized as a part of that culture or nation.

Therefore, it is suggested that if you wanted to be a global citizen, the first thing you need to learn is that accepted the way the call you instead of demanding them on how to recognize you. The lesson that Chelsea Minh Ngoc provides us has its own value to those who desire to be the global citizen.

It is no doubt that global citizen is a trend today and it should be considered as a encouraging trend. As long as you could tackle the drawback which was mentioned above, being global citizen would bring you the maximum amount of advantages.
