The remarkable achievements of former Vietnam Prime Minister- Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung.




Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung has been dismissed by the National Assembly in the most recent Congress meeting after approximately 10 years being a Prime Minister. Below are the remarkable achievements that he had gained in his term.


Many experts claimed that Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung should be recognized as the most powerful Prime Minister in Vietnam and also the third Prime Minister to leave his position prosperously after Mr. Pham Van Dong and Mr. Vo Van Kiet.

 The economy of Vietnam has seen many achievements.

During his term, Vietnam has officially become the 150th member of World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2007. Besides, Vietnam has also signed a noticeable amount of economic treaties, including bilateral ones and multilateral ones. Despite the fact of some treaties are still controversial about its effectiveness such as the decision on joining Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement (TPP), it is undeniable that the integration process into the International economy has been accelerated. Moreover, Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung played a such important role in many International Conference such as The World Economy Forum in 2010 or the G20 Summit of all major and emerging economies in 2010. The speech which was given by him received a lot of positive comments from the press as well as many international economic experts.

The position of Vietnam on International affairs have been raised significantly.

The success of Vietnam in the matter of foreign affairs in the duration of ten years from 2006-2016 is owning much to the management of Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung. He made his first impression through the resounding success of APEC Summit in November 2006. After that, in May 2007, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung was voted to be one of the 20 reformers of Asia by World Business Journal.

The issue that made not only Vietnamese but also the foreigners from many other countries about Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung is about the issue on Vietnamese sovereignty. About the arsing tensions of the East Sea, Vietnam former Prime Minister insisted that there is no vision that Vietnam would take the sovereignty in exchange to the unrealistic friendship. His quote has become one of the most famous quotes that a Vietnam Prime Minister has ever given.

During his successful political path which saw many positive achievements, however, Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung also made some mistakes. Different from many other politicians, who would not be able to take the responsibility on their own decisions, Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung is the decisive person who would always be responsible for what he decided and what he did. In November 2010, when being questioned by the National Assembly about the Vinashin incident which leads to the loss in the government’s budget, he took his responsibility himself on the ineffective policies.

In general, Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung should be nominated to be one of the most influenced Prime Minister in Vietnam. No one could be sure of whether the economy of Vietnam could be at this level with his operation.
