Zika virus – First patients in Vietnam

In April 5th, Vietnamese Ministry of Health announced that Vietnam had two victims tested positive for Zika virus at an official conference.

Facing disease of Zika virus in the world, from the end of March, the Ministry of Health has actively implemented measures to prevent this disease even if not yet detected any cases in Vietnam. Thus, Institute of Pasteur Vietnam tested 1,215 samples of situations that were doubted in 32 provinces of Vietnam. Inside that, they detected two patients in Khanh Hoa province and Ho Chi Minh City.
The first case is also a female patient, 64 years old, residing in Phuoc Hoa Ward, Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa province; Unfortunately, she had symptoms such as fever, headache, rash on the legs and pinkeye, and visited to Khanh Hoa Hospital for Tropical Diseases. 
The second case is a 33-year-old woman who stays at Thanh My Loi Ward, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City. In advance, she was hospitalized at Hospital District 2 with similar symptoms and the text result as the first case. However, she was 8-week pregnant and considered that her fetus could be affected by this virus.
Since April 5th, Vietnamese Ministry of Health has implemented urgent measures against this disease in Vietnam, especially above cities because Khanh Hoa and Nha Trang are two famous tourism destinations which attracted a number of foreigners each year.
At the conference, WHO representative also emphasized that this dangerous disease had spread in over 60 countries from 2007 to 2016 and warned Vietnamese people should be proactive in preventing.
Before the disease situation by Zika virus have been recorded in Vietnam, the Ministry of Health has sent the Department of Health documents to Khanh Hoa province and Ho Chi Minh City and informed the decease in commune level according to Decision 02/2016/QD-TTg dated 28/01/2016 of the Prime Minister about provisions of announcement conditionsof Infectious Diseases.
